Mertz Engineering was started in the 1940's by Harry J. Mertz at 1024 Bank Street Webster City, Iowa. The business
manufactures metal and plastic parts per customer specifications. The business was moved in the 1950's to 700 Union
Street, where Harry added an addition to an existing building at that location. In 1968, Harry's son Robert E. Mertz
purchased the business from his father. Robert further expanded the facilities at Union Street with another addition to
the main building and a warehouse on adjoining property in the early 1970's. Around 1975, the old Zitterell-Mills
building on Prospect Street was needed to further house the continued growth of Mertz Engineering and it's sister
corporation Muti-Line Fluid Power. In 1979 Mertz Engineering was incorporated under the name Mertz Machine and
Engineering. In 1992 it was determined that with the growth, the two corporations needed a larger location that would
allow all all production to be under one roof. The businesses moved into there present location at 1811 West Second
Street Webster City, IA in 1993. In 1997 , a powder coat painting facility was added to paint cylinders produced by
Multi-Line and also do custom painting jobs from outside.
Then in the summer of 2004 Robert Mertz sold his interests in the companies to Chris Anderson. Who has insured
us, that the customers are still the first priority, and will strive to deal with each one fairly and promptly on any and all
matters. Customers of the two businesses range from manufacturers of athletic equipment, tire changers, loaders, cranes
food machines, solid waste equipment and various farm equipment. The market area is mainly in the continental
United States with the majority of customers in Iowa and the surrounding states.
